Vizcaya is a National Historic Landmark built between 1914 and 1922 as the winter home of industrialist James Deering on Biscayne Bay. The Mediterranean-style Main House holds a decorative art collection, surrounded by 10 acres of formal Italian-inspired gardens, a rockland hammock and a mangrove shoreline. Open to the public since 1953, it welcomes about 300,000 visitors a year.
