Opened by Felipe Valls in 1971 on Calle Ocho in Little Havana, Versailles is Miami's most famous Cuban restaurant and a longstanding gathering place for the Cuban exile community. Its ornate, mirror-lined dining room seats hundreds, and the adjacent bakery and walk-up ventanita window serve Cuban classics — ropa vieja, Cuban sandwiches, croquetas and cafecitos — from breakfast until late at night. The restaurant received a James Beard Foundation America's Classics award in 2001.
