Palmer House, a Hilton Hotel

Historic Loop grand hotel and birthplace of the brownie

The Palmer House has been a Chicago icon since Potter Palmer built it as a wedding gift for his wife Bertha in 1871; the current Beaux-Arts building dates to 1925 and is famed for its frescoed lobby ceiling, and the hotel is regarded as the longest continuously operating hotel in North America. It is credited with inventing the brownie and offers the Lockwood Restaurant & Bar, a spa, an indoor pool and extensive event space in the heart of the Loop.
