Levain Bakery opened this tiny below-street-level shop on West 74th Street in 1995 and became famous for its six-ounce chocolate chip walnut cookies, crisp at the edges and gooey inside. The original location still draws lines of locals and visitors alike. The shop also sells breads, pastries and coffee to go.
